Should bromoform absorb at wavelengths longer than 300 nm ?

چکیده
A theoretical study of the low-lying singlet and triplet electronic states of CHBr3 is presented. Calculations of excitation energies and oscillator strengths are presented using excited state coupled cluster response methods, as well as the complete active space self-consistent field method with the full Breit–Pauli spin–orbit operator. These calculations predict that for CHBr3 there is only one singlet state, the ÃA2 , that is accessible by wavelengths longer than 234 nm. It is, however, predicted to be very weakly absorbing, but may strongly overlap at shorter wavelengths with a higher B̃E state, which itself is predicted to be strongly absorbing. There is one triplet state, the ãA2 , that lies well below the à A2 state and has a predicted absorption maximum at about 270 nm. The band origin of the ãA2 is predicted to lie around 297 nm, but this C3v symmetry minimum is calculated to be a second-order transition state, ultimately leading to dissociation to HCBr21Br. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1502639#

(bromoform): revised UV absorption spectrum, atmospheric lifetime and ozone depletion potential
CHBr3 (bromoform) is a short-lived atmospheric trace compound that is primarily of natural origin and is a source of reactive bromine in both the troposphere and stratosphere. Estimating the overall atmospheric impact of CHBr3 and its transport to the stratosphere requires a thorough understanding of its atmospheric loss processes, which are primarily UV photolysis and reaction with the OH radi...
متن کاملAtmospheric Sulfur Photochemistry on Hot Jupiters
We develop a new 1D photochemical kinetics code to address stratospheric chemistry and stratospheric heating in hot Jupiters. Here we address optically active S-containing species and CO2 at 1200 ≤ T ≤ 2000 K. HS (mercapto) and S2 are highly reactive species that are generated photochemically and thermochemically from H2S with peak abundances between 1-10 mbar. S2 absorbs UV between 240 and 340...
متن کاملEnergy transfer and charge separation in photosystem I: P700 oxidation upon selective excitation of the long-wavelength antenna chlorophylls of Synechococcus elongatus.
Photosystem I of the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus contains two spectral pools of chlorophylls called C-708 and C-719 that absorb at longer wavelengths than the primary electron donor P700. We investigated the relative quantum yields of photochemical charge separation and fluorescence as a function of excitation wavelength and temperature in trimeric and monomeric photosystem I complex...

To the Editor, In their recent review on the mechanisms of ultraviolet B (UVB) phototherapy, Weichenthal and Schwarz (1) comment that radiation in the spectral range between 311 and 313 nm clears psoriasis better than other wavelengths. Similar statements appear not infrequently in publications concerning TL-01 narrowband lamps. We suggest that the limited experimental data on wavelength depend...
متن کاملMolecular elimination of Br2 in 248 nm photolysis of bromoform probed by using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy.
By using cavity ring-down spectroscopy technique, we have observed the channel leading to Br(2) molecular elimination following photodissociation of bromoform at 248 nm. A tunable laser beam, which is crossed perpendicular to the photolysis laser beam in a ring-down cell, is used to probe the Br(2) fragment in the B(3)Pi(ou)(+)-X(1)Sigma(g)(+) transition using the range 515-524 nm. The ring-dow...
